Fit, sizes & arc
How the arc gauge works, how to read a product's measurements, and which size to choose.
The arc gauge
Every pair of jeans and trousers we make has an arc, written in degrees. To measure it, we lay the reference size flat (waist 28 for jeans, M for trousers) and draw a straight line from the hip point to the outer corner of the hem. The arc is the angle between that straight line and the outer seam where it leaves the hip.
- 0° is a straight line. Our fitted tops are 0° pieces, cut to sit next to a curve.
- 6–12° is a slight arc: it reads as a straight leg from a distance and gives the knee a little room.
- 14–22° is a medium arc: a clear barrel shape that still works every day.
- 24–34° is a full barrel: the leg rounds out at the knee and comes back to a narrow hem.
Belts carry the arc of their buckle, bags the curve of their base. It is the same gauge, so you can line a bag or belt up with the trousers you wear it with.
Reading the measurements
Each product page lists the knee width, the hem width and the inseam of the reference size, measured flat. Lay a pair you already own flat and measure straight across at the knee (about 33 cm below the crotch) and at the hem. A bigger difference between knee and hem means a stronger arc.
Rigid denim has no stretch. It softens with wear but does not grow; if you are between two sizes, choose the larger one. Raw denim can shrink by up to 3 % in the first warm wash.

Belts
Belt sizes are the distance from the buckle to the middle of five holes, which are 2.5 cm apart. Each size covers about 10 cm: 75 cm fits a waist of roughly 65–80 cm where the trousers sit, 85 cm roughly 75–90 cm and 95 cm roughly 85–100 cm.

Care
- Denim: wash inside out at 30 °C with similar colours, dry flat or hanging, no tumble dryer. Indigo can transfer onto light fabrics and upholstery while new.
- Tailoring: gentle wash at 30 °C or dry clean, hang to dry, steam along the crease.
- Jersey and knit tops: 30 °C inside out, dry flat.
- Leather belts and bags: wipe with a dry cloth, keep away from heat and long rain, use a neutral leather balm now and then.
The sewn-in label of each piece gives its exact fibre composition and care symbols.
