ARCAVELLE / A brand drawn with one curve

A brand drawn with one curve

Why ARCAVELLE makes trousers that bend at the knee, and how we measure the bend.

ARCAVELLE is built around one line: a trouser leg that leaves the hip, swings out to the knee and comes back in at the ankle, like a bracket. We make that line in denim and in tailoring cloth, and we make the straight-lined tops, belts and bags that sit next to it.

Why a curve

A barrel leg can be a passing trend. We think the curve itself is more useful than the trend: it gives the knee room, lets the fabric fall away from the body and turns a plain pair of trousers into a shape you notice. So instead of making one barrel jean for one season, we draw the curve at fourteen strengths in denim and eight in tailoring, from a hairline 6° to a horseshoe 34°, and keep them.

Measured, not described

Words like “relaxed”, “wide” or “balloon” mean different things in every shop. We measure the curve instead. Every pair of jeans and trousers has an arc in degrees, and every product page lists the knee and hem width of the reference size. If you know the measurements of a pair you already like, you can find the closest arc here. How the arc gauge works.

One curve, one line

A curved leg looks best next to something straight. Our fitted tops are cut close to the body and end at a high waistband; our belts and bags keep a straight top edge. Every piece shares one detail: a short curved seam, the bracket, at the side of the leg, the side waist of a top, the buckle of a belt or the base of a bag.

What we do not say

We describe what a garment is: its fabric, its measurements, its curve. We do not tell you it will change the shape of your body or make your legs look any particular way. A barrel leg is a shape of its own; how you wear it is up to you.

Colours

Chalk white, indigo and apricot: the colour of unbleached cotton, the colour of denim and one warm accent. You will find them on this website, in the studio photographs and in the stitching of some of our jeans.
